For over 30 years, Kshamenk has been held in captivity at the Parque Zoológico y Oceanográfico “Mundo Marino”. His story represents the plight of all marine mammals held in artificial environments.
Capture
Torn from the ocean near San Clemente, Kshamenk was taken away from his pod and his freedom under tragic circumstances.
Arrival at Mundo Marino
Brought to Mundo Marino, he became Argentina's only captive orca, trapped in a concrete tank far from the sea.
First Breeding Attempt
Instead of freedom, his life was reduced to experiments, as semen was extracted for SeaWorld’s breeding program.
Health Issues Begin
Years of isolation and captivity brought stress, broken teeth, and visible suffering.
Current Situation
Today, Kshamenk still lives alone, a symbol of loss and resilience, waiting for an ocean he may never see again.
The Current Crisis
Kshamenk continues to suffer in a tank that is far too small for an animal of his size. Orcas in the wild travel hundreds of kilometers daily, but Kshamenk is confined to a space that represents less than 0.001% of his natural habitat.
